If You Didn't See It, Would You Believe It?

December, 2008. Tim and I are sitting in church with Dan and Heather. It's one of those progressive churches that wakes its congregants up with coffee, tea and hot chocolate served at the back of the sanctuary. (My church does this too, only it's served at the end of the service, waking people up after the fact.) I glance over at Heather and see that she's HOLDING A PEPSI!!!

IN CHURCH!

A book I saw calls soda "liquid Satan". Could it be that Heather needs deliverance and this was a silent plea for help? Could she be experiencing deep hurt that she needs deliverance from?!

At any rate, I took a picture for posterity.

  1. Now that is funny! Hubby won't even let me carry my empty coffee travel mug from Sunday school into church. He takes them out to the vehicle in between. Do you know what a conniption he'd have if he found me with a mug of coffee? Oh, my!

I have a funny thing to say about Heather and Pepsi...it will be sometime by the end of the month.

  2. Yup, that is our Heather...

Reese, do you think it is time for us to hold an intervention???

  3. Kayren, I can't wait to see what you have to say about Heather and Pepsi. That should be good! I always welcome others to get in on hounding Heather about her Pepsi habit.

Amy, what could we possibly do? I've tried everything I know. I'm sure her kidneys are crying out for an intervention, poor things.

  5. Hey, in my defense, everyone else in church is drinking their caffeine addiction of choice, so I feel like I can take mine! LOL! It was pretty funny!

I still can't believe you were snapping pictures of me in church! LOL!

Karyen - I can't wait to see what you write :)

Amy - You are too funny! An interventions?? LOL!

  7. One of the reasons I love working in children's church (and in the AV booth)..I can sip my Mountain Dew the whole time. Oh I love cold caffeine.

  10. OOOOHHH Reese got the look!!
I would love to see you take the coffee away from my fellow church goers up here in Seattle...
BTW- I live with someone who brings at least 2 dews to church on Sunday. Boldly, proudly right next to the soundboard. He is in no way going to give that up, it would be like the bumper sticker says: my wife said it was either me or the Mt. Dew.
    God I miss her...

  11. Too funny. You can tell she was feeling a little guilty. Wrapping her hands around the can to cover it up. Or were her hands just particularly warm that day?
    Ha

  12. Jen, I am always, always freezing! I hang on to the can tight, I wouldn't want it to spill in church! :)

  13. Yeah, Jen: guilty, yes. Warm: no! Maybe if Heather quit drinking ice-cold Pepsi she'd warm up a little.

Last night I actually got the lowdown on the differences between fountain Pepsi and fountain Coke. Seems no one can do fountain Pepsi correctly and she prefers fountain Coke. She rattled off all the places in town who serve Coke and Pepsi and which are her favorites.
    She cracks me up!

Heather, I publicly renew my challenge to quit all sodas cold turkey. We can always use the TENS machine, but we're running out of time.

  14. What do you mean we are running out of time? Did you find a flight?

I actually thought of you today, I have only had one Pepsi and desperately want another!
