The Art of Indecision

Reese: "Ok, Tim, I've finally made a decision about what degree I'm going to start working toward when I start school in the spring: pre-law. Hopefully I can finish it before we leave here, then I can look into law schools in Oregon when we move back."

Tim, in a dull and unexcited voice: "Great."

R: "What?! Aren't you happy that I finally decided on a career?"

T: "Uh-huh. And I'm sure I'll love Attorney Reese. Just like I would have loved Journalist Reese, Author Reese, Chef Reese, Business Owner Reese, English-major Reese, Paralegal Reese, Editor Reese, Administrative Assistant Reese, Office Manager Reese, Teacher Reese, Nurse Reese, Photographer Reese, Midwife Reese..."

Do you see a pattern of indecisiveness here? It's just there are so many interesting fields one could go into. How can I possibly be expected to choose?

  2. We are so much alike!!! I have said many times I'm going to go back to school to get my masters, but I dont' know what in...teaching, English, education administration, counseling, the list goes on. And if were to just take classes for personal enrichment, well the list doubles at least--cooking, dancing, music lessons, writing for different genres, etc. I finally settled on being an author for now because that's what I can do from home with my kids.

Maybe by the time I'm 40 I'll know what I want to be when I grow up....probably not!

    So, DID you decide?

  3. Decide?! No. Unfortunately, I truly want to do it all. I actually planned in high school to be something of a career student, to really DO IT ALL. I also thought it might be nice to be a journalist because they have the opportunity to write about so many varied subjects and would learn much in the process.

As for the attorney option, my mom has always said I should go into that field, but at different times both Heather and Tim have warned me against it. I'm still not completely convinced either way.

Frankly, there are some writing ideas I'd like to pursue but I never seem to have the time to spend on them. I guess it really comes down to where my priorities are.

I'll keep you all posted. I'm know your holding your breath!
