My Husband, The Reactor

My husband is very reactionary. Heather pointed out the fun of watching his reactions in this post awhile back. She's right, too. He's loud, he makes "shocked noises", covers his mouth with his hand, makes hilarious faces... it's great. When I really need someone to fuss with me over some minor misery that has befallen me, I go to Tim.

For instance, last week I cut myself shaving. The thing is, every time I go back to Oregon I forget my razor so I end up buying cheap ones to get me by. I inevitably take them back home and add them to the ones left over from the last time I went to America and forgot a good razor. Then I feel obligated to use the cheap ones until they're gone rather than buy replacements for my worn out old-but-good razor. With all my trips back to The States and the number of times I have bought new razors, I have quite a supply. I cut myself shaving quite often.

This time it was a brand spankin' new cheap razor, the sharpest and most dangerous kind. When I stepped out of the shower I had about 10 small streaks of blood forming on each leg. None of the cuts hurt but they were annoying because they wouldn't stop bleeding.

I walked down the stairs and into the computer room where Tim was emailing a friend. I knew this would be good. I said, "Man, Tim, you won't believe what I just did" and lifted up one of my legs into his view. He didn't fail to meet my expectations.

"OH MY GOSH!!" He shrieked. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?! OH, YOU POOR, POOR BABY! YOU'RE SHREDDED TO RIBBONS!" He held one fist to his teeth and gripped his cheek with the other. "OH! OH! THE BLOOD!"

It was no small amount of sympathy he heaped on me. It was very satisfying. I wish I had taken pictures.

Well, I did take pictures of Tim taking the cough medicine I bought him at the English store down the street. Trying to figure out which to buy took me about a half hour, since none of the medications were familiar and even some of the terminology was foreign to me. (Such as "catarrh" which is an inflammation of the mucus membranes in the respiratory tract-- I looked it up!) I guess I chose the wrong cough syrup, based on his reaction:

It's so much fun! LOL!

  4. I don't care how bad my cough might be, I have a No Liquid Cough Medicine rule that I strictly adhere to! When Sean was a baby I forgot to take a birth control pill one day so I followed the directions on the pack and took 2 at once the next day-- on an empty stomach-- and then chased them down with some Day Quill. I was so sick all day. I don't think I've downed a drop of liquid medicine since.
