Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

Oh, the amazing things you can learn in a library! Such as that Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is a village in Anglesey in Wales and has the longest town name in the UK. The name means (in Welsh) "St Mary's church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio of the red cave".

For further reading, see the Wikipedia article here, or the website here. And here is a YouTube video of the pronunciation:

~Reese, who will put Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch on her list of places to visit in the UK.

  2. This village is inded called Llanfair by the locals and it has some interesting attractions, such as the nearby Marquis of Anglesey Column, where you can experience breathtaking views of Snowdonia and the Menai Straits all the way down towards Caernarfon.

There is also the site of the first ever Womens Institute meeting room in this village. Opened in 1907, the corrugated iron building is still in use today by this group.

You can find this attraction net to the famous Turnpike at the junction which leads to the National Trust gardens and house at Plas Newydd, about 1 mile away, on the road to Brynsiencyn, the A5025.
